The Indialantic Chamber Singers

A Brevard County Treasure

The Ensemble: The Indialantic Chamber Singers is a professional-quality mixed-voice group of 35 volunteer vocalists. Membership is composed of degreed musicians, choral arts professionals and experienced amateur vocalists.  The chamber ensemble performs a variety of both accompanied and a cappella sacred, traditional, and contemporary choral works - a repertoire that ranges from Renaissance to 20th century masterpieces and contemporary works.  The performance schedule consists of three to four major concerts a year in and around Brevard County, Florida with the annual "Flutes & Voices of Christmas" concerts with the Space Coast Flute Orchestra a seasonal favorite.
In 2003 and again in 2007, the Indialantic Chamber Singers was invited to sing at the Washington National Cathedral for the "Florida Day" services.  The ensemble performed a half hour prelude program of a cappella choral music.

Mission: The Indialantic Chamber Singers believes that choral music nurtures the human spirit and is integral to the preservation and development of our cultural arts.  The ICS strives to become a respected, financially sound, and valued arts organization whose performances will enrich, inspire, entertain, educate and develope large and diverse audiences of all ages through quality performances of choral music.

History: The Indialantic Chamber Singers was formed eight seasons ago in 1999 and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2001.  In 2003 the ICS were invited to perform at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.  The name is taken from the hometown of founding Director, David Vogeding.  Rehearsals are held weekly at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Indialantic.

History of Indialantic, FL: In 1915 Ernest Kouwen-Hoven came to Brevard County Florida and purchased a strip of beachside property south of Cape Canaveral and east of Melbourne on the barrier island that separates the Indian River Lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean. This one-square mile became known as "Indialantic-by-the-Sea".  A thriving community was established and fueled by the  Florida real estate boom that reached its peak in 1925. The 1.05-square mile area was incorporated in 1952 with a population of about 1,500. Today, Indialantic is a quiet, primarily residential town with a population of about 3,000 consisting of  retirees as well as young families, professionals,  artists and students.

The Director:   A familiar face in the Central Florida music community, David Vogeding obtained a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from West Virginia University and Master of Music in Organ Performance from the University of Oklahoma.  He has completed course work for the Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting at the University of Oklahoma and several seasons of study at the Royal School of Church Music in Croydon, England.  A member of the AGO, Mr. Vogeding has been the Director of Music at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Indialantic, Florida since 1992.

Membership:  We demand the highest level of professionalism in every performance and challenge ourselves to continually raise the bar of performance standards.  Rehearsals are Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.  in the choir room at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.  The ICS wish to thank Eastminster Presbyterian Church for their continued support and sponsorship.

Auditions: Musicians with strong vocal and sight reading skills who interested in joining the ensemble may request a private audition with Mr. Vogeding by calling him at his office: 723-8371.

Financial Support:  As a non-profit, volunteer organization, sponsored in part by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners through the Brevard Cultural Alliance, The Indialantic Chamber Singers does not charge admission for concerts.  The continuance of the group, therefore, depends upon donated financial support to pay for the necessary expenses, i.e. purchasing new music, music rental, programs, instrumentalists, etc.  Your donations are always very much appreciated.
